On February 5, 2025, the Carlington community joined Mayor Mark Sutcliffe and Councillor Riley Brockington to celebrate the $11.8-million investment for the expansion and renovation of the Alexander Community Centre on 960 Silver Street.
This Budget 2025 investment will provide more space for recreation and culture programming and activities, and community events and meetings.
The expansion plans for the centre include:
• A full-size gymnasium
• A family change room
• A multi-purpose program room and lounges for community use, including spaces for teens.
In addition, the current interior space will be renovated with a new front entry and customer service desk, and the kitchen facility will also be relocated.
Now that funding is confirmed, design work is scheduled for 2025, and it is hoped that the tender will go out in 2026. More information regarding the timelines for the construction and renovations will be announced soon.
